L'Apothicaire Sur le Vif 2020 6.8% 75cl

This characterful cider is a 'cidre extra brut': a very dry cider. The cider has a spicy nose and tastes very dry, but with a hint of sweetness. Fruity, bitter, tannic rich and citrusy. Refreshing and delicious with creamy cheese or light/white meat. And the beautifully designed label also makes it beautiful for the table.

Description

Cidrerie l'Apothicaire was founded in 2018 by Matthieu Huet. After several years of working as a pharmacist, he decided to change course and start a cidrerie. After a year of preparation, he settled in southwestern Brittany (Finistère) in the town of Clohars-Carnoët, where he also grew up.

Decisive for his choice for Clohars-Carnoët was the fact that a lot of cider is traditionally made in this village. As a result, there are many (cider) apples available. In addition, the village is within the area of the AOP (Appellation d'Origine Controlé) Cornouaille. The only region in Brittany with an AOP for cider, Pommeau and Lambic.

Matthieu and his wife Nolwenn make cider in a natural and traditional way. Initially they depended on apples from small local orchards in the immediate vicinity, but now they have taken over orchards themselves and (thanks to a crowdfunding campaign -mimosa.com- plantez des arbres, adoptez un pommier!) they have been able to plant new trees . The apples are all unsprayed, but for administrative reasons only some of the ciders are certified organic. Matthieu works as naturally as possible, does not add anything (no sulfites, no carbon dioxide). His main aim is to ensure that the ciders reflect the taste of the region.

A talented new cider maker, currently producing a very limited number of bottles. We are very proud that we have been able to buy a number of boxes for cider lovers!
